Corrected August 2026. An earlier version of this article listed a Spring event of 4 to 10 May 2026 at 20 percent off, a back to school window of 13 July to 31 August 2026 at 10 to 15 percent, and a combined saving of up to 30 percent. Old Navy does not run a national teacher discount. Old Navy's own Deals page and Coupons page list every current offer, and no educator, teacher or student discount appears on either. Gap Incorporated's Encore membership terms, effective 8 April 2026, contain no educator provision. ID.me states plainly: "We're not aware that Old Navy offers Teachers discounts."
What does exist is smaller and local. Individual Old Navy stores have in some years run an in-store back to school promotion giving school staff an extra 10 percent off on presentation of a valid school identification card. It is arranged store by store, it is never redeemable online, and Old Navy has never announced it centrally.

Old Navy publishes its current offers on two pages, Deals and Coupons and Promo Codes, and as of 31 August 2026 both list the same four things: free shipping over fifty dollars for rewards members, an extra 30 percent off a first purchase with a new Encore Credit Card, 50 percent off when spending one hundred dollars or more, and deals from six dollars. No teacher offer appears on either.
The absence is corroborated from outside Old Navy. ID.me, the verification platform that runs educator gating for retailers including adidas, states that it is not aware of any Old Navy teacher discount. Old Navy also has no offer on UNiDAYS beyond a brand profile with no terms, and no student, military, nurse or first responder discount either.
One point of care. Old Navy's promotional terms say offers cannot be combined with "FitPro, Brand Ambassador, student or employee discounts". That is Gap Incorporated boilerplate referring to programmes at sibling brands and to the staff discount. It is not evidence of a customer-facing student or teacher discount, and no Gap Incorporated page defines one.
What is the store-level Old Navy teacher event?
Some Old Navy stores have run their own in-store back to school promotion giving school staff an extra 10 percent off with a valid school identification card. The clearest documented United States example is Old Navy at Tempe Marketplace in Arizona, which advertised exactly that for a single day on 13 July 2024 through the shopping centre's own events listing. That page now reads "This event has passed."
Because these are arranged locally, nothing about them is guaranteed. There is no published percentage, no published date range, no online equivalent and no list of participating stores. A teacher who wants to know whether a particular store is running one should telephone that store and ask, and should confirm at the till before paying rather than at the end of the transaction. The same store-by-store pattern applies to the IKEA teacher discount.
There is also a geographic caution worth stating. The social media accounts most visibly promoting an Old Navy teacher discount belong to shopping centres in Newfoundland and New Brunswick, which are in Canada. The recurring promotion may be weighted towards Canada, and no live 2026 United States instance could be verified.
Why do so many sites claim 20 or 30 percent?
Because the figures are copied between aggregator sites without a source. It is the same failure that put a liquidated retailer into our Hobby Lobby teacher discount comparison table. A survey of the first page of Google results for this query on 31 August 2026 returns four different numbers: 10 percent from social media posts, 10 to 15 percent from a video, 20 percent from one teacher resource site, and 30 percent from a discount aggregator. Google's own AI Overview has settled on the most defensible version, describing a seasonal in-store 10 percent with a school identification card. Its cited sources are two Facebook posts, two Instagram posts, a Reddit thread, a 2021 blog and ID.me. Not a single primary Old Navy or Gap Incorporated source appears among them.
A second problem is date recycling. The most widely shared post claims a window of "Wednesday, July 22 to Monday, September 15". Those weekday and date pairings do not both hold in 2026, which indicates copy carried over from an earlier year. This article deliberately publishes no date range for that reason.
What is Encore, and is it better than a teacher discount?
Encore is Gap Incorporated's rewards programme, launched on 24 February 2026 to replace Navyist Rewards, and it covers Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic and Athleta. Membership is free. Core and Premier members earn 5 points per dollar, and points redeem at 500 points for one dollar, which is a return of one percent. Free shipping starts at fifty dollars.
The tiers are Core, which is free with no minimum, Premier at three hundred and fifty dollars of qualifying purchases a year, and All-Access, which is automatic for cardholders. Existing Navyist cardholders were moved to All-Access automatically when the programme changed, so nothing was lost in the transition.
The Encore Credit Card, issued by Barclays on Mastercard, earns 25 points per dollar at Gap Incorporated brands, a return of five percent, and carries an opening offer of an extra 30 percent off a first Old Navy purchase within fourteen days. On a single back to school shop that opening offer is worth three times any teacher discount Old Navy has ever been documented to run. It is only worth taking if the balance is cleared in full each month.
What actually saves a teacher money at Old Navy?
Shop the back to school and clearance pricing, because it is deeper than any identification-based discount. As of 31 August 2026 Old Navy is running kids' back to school deals from five dollars, kids' and baby deals from six dollars, jeans from twenty-two dollars and a twenty-dollars-and-under section, with up to 50 percent off kids' uniforms, denim, graphic tees and basics.
Join Encore before shopping, because it is free and it stacks with everything above. A 50 percent off one hundred dollars event combined with points earning beats a hypothetical 10 percent comfortably, and requires no identification and no store to be participating.
Check Athleta if a second credential applies. Athleta's Professional Discount Program gives 25 percent off regular-priced merchandise, year round, in store and online, and its published eligibility list includes mental health professionals, doctors and nurses working in women's health, physical and occupational therapists, and certified fitness professionals or active group fitness instructors. Classroom teaching alone does not qualify, but a school counsellor, school psychologist, school-based therapist or a physical education teacher holding a current fitness certification does. It is the most valuable Gap Incorporated discount genuinely available to school staff, and almost no article about Old Navy teacher discounts mentions it. Teachers spent an average of 895 United States dollars of their own money on classroom supplies during the 2024 to 2025 school year. That figure comes from the AdoptAClassroom.org 2025 Teacher Spending Survey of 3,700 certified kindergarten to grade twelve educators, published on 9 June 2025, and Education Week re-cited it as the current figure on 25 August 2026.
The same reporting gives two further figures worth knowing. The median school-provided supply budget is two hundred dollars a year, and 97 percent of teachers say that is not enough.
