Three separate signals confirm it has not returned. JCPenney does not appear in SheerID's back to school savings roundup published on 16 July 2025. SheerID's own offer page for the JCPenney 35 percent now returns a missing-page error. And JCPenney's own coupons page today lists 10 percent rather than 35.
The history before 2024 points the same way. JCPenney's press release of 18 July 2023 stated that "teachers get an additional 10% off when shopping in-store, now through August 13." The 35 percent year was the outlier, not the pattern.

Is the teacher discount actually the best offer at JCPenney?
Often not, and this is the most useful thing on this page. JCPenney runs public coupon codes continuously, open to anyone, and they frequently exceed 10 percent. As of 31 August 2026 the site carries codes giving 25 to 35 percent off named categories including bedding, bath, curtains, denim and apparel.
A teacher with no identification to hand is therefore not necessarily worse off. On a category covered by a public code, the public code is the better offer, and the two do not stack. The right move is to compare before paying rather than to assume the teacher rate wins.
Where the teacher discount does win is on categories the public codes exclude, and on trips where no promotion is running. That is a narrower case than most teacher discount guides imply, and saying so is more useful than restating the 10 percent.

The JCPenney credit card raises the earn rate to 1.5 points per dollar at the Insider and Elite tiers and 2.0 at the VIP tier, which is a return of 7.5 to 10 percent. The card carries a variable purchase annual percentage rate of 33.24 percent and a penalty rate of 39.99 percent, so it is only rational for someone clearing the balance in full each month.
Points expire after twelve consecutive months of inactivity. There is no teacher provision anywhere in the Rewards terms, so the programme is a general benefit that a teacher stacks rather than an educator perk.
Does JCPenney's financial position affect the discount?
It appears to. JCPenney is trading normally with more than six hundred stores across the United States and Puerto Rico and more than fifty thousand associates, and it has been part of Catalyst Brands since January 2025, a joint venture of Authentic Brands Group, Brookfield, Shein and Simon Property Group.
The trend is downward. Full-year net sales fell more than 5 percent to six billion dollars, fourth-quarter sales fell 8 percent to one point nine billion, the annual net loss widened 2 percent to one hundred and seventy-three million dollars, and cash fell more than 67 percent to eighty-eight million.
The relevance is directional rather than causal. Promotional generosity has moved from 35 percent in 2024 to 10 percent in 2026 across the same period in which cash tightened. That is a reason to treat any future large teacher offer as an event to verify rather than as a recurring fixture.
