IKEA runs no national teacher discount in the United States. What IKEA does run, and what this article previously missed, is a series of Teacher Appreciation Events organised by individual stores, typically at 10 to 15 percent off in store on a single day. IKEA Norfolk, Schaumburg, Draper, Centennial, Long Island, San Diego and Orlando all held one in 2026.
The 2026 round has closed. IKEA Norfolk's own page labelled its 5 August event as the final date for 2026, and no upcoming event was listed as of 31 August 2026. The events cluster in July and early August, so the window to check is from late June onward.

Does IKEA offer a teacher discount?
Not nationally. IKEA publishes no United States teacher discount program, and ID.me states: "We're not aware that Ikea offers Teachers discounts." IKEA maintains a customer service article indexed under the title "Does IKEA offer a student or teacher discount?", but the page body did not render on repeated attempts, so this article does not claim to quote it.
What IKEA does run is local. Individual stores publish Teacher Appreciation Events on their own ikea.com store event pages, and several ran in 2026. IKEA Norfolk in Virginia advertised "Hey teachers, swing by for a sweet 15% off as a big thanks for all you do!" for 5 August 2026, and a second event on 29 July for "teachers, school staff, and administrators". IKEA Schaumburg in Illinois ran one on 24 July at 15 percent. IKEA Centennial in Colorado titled its page "Teacher Appreciation: 10% Off In-Store Purchases".
So the honest answer is that there is a teacher discount at IKEA, and it depends entirely on which store you use and when. It is in store, it is date limited, and IKEA has never announced it centrally.
What was the 15 percent offer this article used to describe?
IKEA's 80th anniversary promotion, which ran once. The terms were 15 percent off for teachers and college students, valid 8 August to 5 September 2023, in-store purchases only, on purchases of up to three thousand dollars before tax, with a current college acceptance letter, teacher identification, a recent teacher pay slip or a homeschool document accepted as proof.
An earlier version of this article presented those terms as though they described a standing programme. They did not. No IKEA-owned page for that offer survives, and its terms rest on contemporaneous local reporting from August 2023 rather than on IKEA's own site, which is a further reason not to treat them as current.
Every subsequent nationwide IKEA verified offer has been for students only. There is no evidence that the 2023 teacher offer is repeatable, and this article no longer implies that it is.
What is IKEA Family, and why does it matter more?
IKEA Family is IKEA's free loyalty program, and for a teacher furnishing a classroom it is worth more than a one-day percentage. IKEA states that it is "100% free to join" and lists the benefits: twenty dollars off a first in-store purchase, points collected at one per dollar with fifty for signing up, ninety-day price protection with a refund of the difference if prices drop, year-round member prices on selected products, free workshops, a free cup of coffee or tea on every visit, a birthday offer, free in-store collection and discounted delivery from nineteen dollars.
The ninety-day price protection is the part most people miss. On furniture, where IKEA reprices regularly, a refund of the difference within ninety days can exceed a single-day 15 percent, and it applies to every purchase rather than to one visit.
IKEA Family is also the gate to two other things. The online As-is service requires membership, and the United States student discount requires it as well.
Is there an IKEA student discount, and can teachers use it?
Yes, and no. IKEA runs a United States student discount of 15 percent, one-time use, for IKEA Family members who are active college or university students, verified through SheerID. The 2026 window ran from 26 May to 30 September, and the code is valid for thirty days from verification. It excludes kitchens, delivery, installation, assembly, gift cards, credit card payments, the restaurant and As-is items.
Teachers are not eligible. This is a student program, and unlike the 2023 anniversary offer it does not extend to educators. A teacher enrolled in a college or university course would qualify as a student rather than as a teacher.
The United Kingdom offer is different again, and is a common source of confusion. IKEA United Kingdom runs ten pounds off a seventy-five pound spend or twenty pounds off one hundred and fifty pounds, verified through Student Beans rather than SheerID, and running from 10 August to 25 October 2026. It is a cash-off voucher rather than a percentage, and it has no United States application.
What about the 6 percent education discount people mention?
That is a United Kingdom scheme and does not apply in the United States. Discounts for Teachers, a British teacher benefits platform, promotes a 6 percent in-store IKEA discount, and videos from that account rank on United States search results for this query. IKEA does not offer it in the United States and no IKEA-owned United States page mentions it.

IKEA Business Network deserves a similar correction. It is free to join and gives interior design services, discounted delivery, purchase history, automated quotations and training, but its published member discount is "access to the IKEA Family offers". It gives IKEA Family pricing rather than a business discount on top of it, and IKEA does not address whether a school or a teacher may join.
How do the As-is section and the return policy interact?
As-is is IKEA's markdown department, covering discontinued items, gently used stock and ex-showroom displays, and IKEA Family members can browse their own store's As-is stock online and reserve items for collection within forty-eight hours. IKEA publishes no headline percentage for it, so this article does not state one.
The critical term is the return rule. IKEA states that "all As-is products, including those reserved using the As-is online service, are excluded from the Return Policy." Ordinary stock carries a 365-day return window unopened and 180 days opened, with proof of purchase. As-is carries none.
For a teacher kitting out a classroom on a school budget, that trade matters. As-is is where the deep reductions are, and it is also where a mistake cannot be undone.
