Also known as a self-insured plan, is a type of health insurance plan in which the employer assumes the financial risk for providing healthcare benefits to its employees. Instead of purchasing a traditional insurance policy from an insurance company, the employer sets aside funds to cover the cost of medical claims and administrative expenses.
