Resident Alien

Refers to an individual who is not a citizen of the country they reside in but has been granted legal permission to live and work there for an extended period. The term "resident alien" is commonly used in the United States to describe non-U.S. citizens who have obtained lawful permanent resident status, also known as a green card. These individuals are authorized to live and work in the U.S. indefinitely and enjoy many of the same rights and protections as U.S. citizens, although they are not eligible to vote in federal elections. Resident aliens are required to carry their green card as proof of their legal status while residing in the United States.
