Staff turnover is when employees leave the organisation for various reasons. Staff turnover costs money through lost productivity, time and resources wasted in looking for replacements. It is important for leadership in an organisation to understand why people are leaving the organisation and put interventions to prevent losses.
Staff turnover can be categorised into voluntary and involuntary turnover. When people die in service or they are forced out through a restructuring that is called involuntary turnover.
