5 Industries That Are Thriving in California: Which Could Be Perfect for You?

California is home to some of the highest performing companies in the United States and has the fastest growing workforce, manufacturing industry, and gross domestic product. It makes sense why young workers flock to its sunny shores, but what industry should you focus on?

The Fastest Growing Industries in California

According to Best Colleges, the fastest growing careers in California include statisticians, nurse anesthetists, and solar panel installers.

These careers are found in the following industries.

1. Health Care

Health care jobs across the board will experience a 150% to 350% growth in California. This demand is fueled by an aging pop., an increased use of technology, and staffing shortages. The COVID-19 pandemic has only made staffing concerns even more prevalent and worrisome.

Although many health care jobs are high paying, they’re also considered stressful. Lower paying jobs in the sector, such as home health aids, should be avoided until conditions improve. For the time being, look to low-stress occupations, such as an audiologist, dietitian, or dental hygienist.

2. Green Energy

California is putting a lot of focus on building a sustainable future, leading to a massive increase in the clean (or green) energy sector. Solar PV installers and wind turbine service technicians will see the biggest growth, but the clean energy industry will see a large increase as a whole.

Fortunately, the two most sought-after jobs only require a high school diploma or courses at a community college. Solar installers may become the next step up to general roofing careers.

But if those careers aren’t your cup of tea, there are plenty of others that are high in demand, some of which don’t require a college education. For example, construction managers, service unity operators, marketing managers, and millwrights are hired without a high school diploma.

3. Construction

In California, construction occupations have grown by 35.9% in five years, but drywall and ceiling installers are quickly outpacing the industry average with a 118% growth. Construction jobs are often high paying and offer great benefits, especially at the journeyperson level.

As construction jobs continue to grow, so do other industries that rely on them. To capitalize on the construction industry, project managers, investors, or builders could attend California real estate school to become agents. This would allow them to improve their knowledge and skills.

4. Computers

Computers, technology, and coding roles in California have always been in high demand and will continue to be for a long while. In the past, employers expected software engineers and IT professionals to hold a bachelor’s degree, but the qualification is becoming a thing of the past.

Software engineering will see a 22% growth in the next decade, which is a problem for such an understaffed industry. Coding boot camps are attempting and succeeding at closing the gap.

If you like to work with computers, independently, and exciting new technology, a career in computers might be what you’re looking for. Plus, several computer roles will earn you a six-figure income, ample amount of career growth, and stability if you’re continuously learning.

5. Mathematicians

While mathematicians and statistician occupations require a bachelor’s or master’s degree, you’re practically guaranteed a stable job in any section if you’re great at math. That’s because companies need this knowledge to analyze large amounts of data to generate ROI growth.

In California, the employment of mathematicians will grow by 29%, whereas statisticians will grow by 33%. Statisticians make $80,000 to $90,000 a year, while mathematicians bring home $130,000 to $150,000 a year. Both professions are difficult but can be incredibly rewarding.
