Introduction

In today's constantly changing business world, future business performance and profitability of an organisation no longer depends upon traditional capital management portfolio management. The success of any organisation in this constantly changing world of work depends upon human capital management. Organizations have come to realize that the most valuable resource that needs to be leveraged is the human resource. For centuries money, has been the main reason most employees retained in their jobs.

 

However, nowadays the ground rules for employment have shifted. Employees would like to receive an opportunity to use their competencies and enhance their skills as well as knowledge. This would be to develop themselves within the business. Employees become engaged in a company when their needs are met. Hewitt defines employee engagement as the energy, passion, 'fire in the belly' employees have for their employers.
