Nepotism Prevalence in the Workplace Survey Report





Introduction

The definition of nepotism according to Oxford dictionary is the act of appointing and promoting family members, relatives and friends based on favouritism in an organisation. Nepotism has been, is and will most likely be there even in the future as it originates from certain human traits that cannot be altered. This survey report on the prevalence of nepotism in Zimbabwean industries or sectors.

Summary of Key Findings

  • 27.39% of the participants indicated that there was a high prevalence of nepotism in their organisation.
  • 28.24% indicated a moderate prevalence of nepotism in their organisation.
  • 25.55% indicated a low prevalence of nepotism in their organisation.
  • 17.82% indicated that there was no nepotism in their organisations.
  • The highest prevalence of nepotism is in the Medical Services Sector with 52% of the respondents rating it on the high prevalence ranking scale.
  • The other sectors with a high prevalence of nepotism are FMCG (42%), Media (40%) and Telecoms (39%).
  • The department most affected by nepotism across all industries is the recruitment department.
  • The recruitment department had a high prevalence of nepotism at 28.09%.
