AI has historically appeared in science fiction and futurist presentations, but in reality, it has been operating alongside you every day for years and you were not taking notice. As we speak, we are in the midst of a massive transformation of how we carry our work because as Ai –based technologies surrounds today’s employees opens up new opportunities to accomplish tasks. This massive change affects everyone and it has left many unanswered questions Such as; what AI will do to the world of work? Will AI take away jobs? Does AI increase unemployment? Will Automation & Artificial Intelligence reduce or increase jobs?
What is AI and how does it work?
Before we really delve dep into what AI do in the work place, let just briefly defines AI and its operational principles. With will do this with an example that is familiar to almost everyone-pick pocketing. Artificial intelligence (AI) is a branch of computer science that aimed creating intelligent machines that work and react like humans. Some of the tasks that computers with artificial intelligence can do include facial recognition, fraud detection, Market analysis and data mining. How does it operate? It all starts when we give the computer a goal to achieve. This goal could be to detect from a video if there is an individual who is pick pocketing another. The next step is to expose it to hundreds thousands of hours of footage that so that it learns to identify a person who is pick pocketing. The goal could be even detecting the intention, that is to say identifying if some is likely to pick pocket someone, The more data(video footage) we expose to the computer the better it becomes at solving that detecting an individuals who is pick-pocketing others. This is how AI operates across all domains. Let us now address how AI is changing the world of work.
What AI is accomplishing in the work place?
AI is doing amazing things. If I were to document all that has been accomplished by AI it would take me a on average life span of a human being. However, I will try to share some of the most relevant accomplishments. AI is capable of recognising objects in images and therefore is being used in image-based medical diagnosis procedure. How good it is AI in this matter? Research shows that AI is as good as a doctor and may be even better when it comes to image-based medical diagnosis procedures. A research paper published in the medical journal Lancet Digital Health shows that Ai systems correctly classified a disease 87 percent of the time – compared with 86.4 percent for healthcare professionals – and correctly gave the all-clear 92.5 percent of the time, as opposed to 90.5 percent for human doctors. Dr Xiaoxuan Liu, the lead author of the study, made it clear that as much as there are many headlines about AI outperforming humans, it can at best be equivalent.
Let us look another where AI is bringing about a massive change in the work place. Governments and other law enforcing agencies rely on human beings to prevent and combat crime to single out criminals. Traditionally government agencies would rely on human spies to give them information that would help them combat crime. AI has changed everything. AI security systems analyse surveillance camera footage and attempt to isolate people and objects within the video feed. Video analytics use algorithms to spot particular articles of clothing and luggage. Certain versions claim they can find people in surveillance footage that match a particular hair colour, facial hair, and even skin tone. Law enforcing agents are also using what are also using predictive policing. There are two types of predictive policing programs: place-based and person-based. Place-based predictive policing uses algorithms to analyse data sets in order to try to predict where certain crimes are likely to occur. These estimates are used to inform where police officers are deployed. Person-based predictive policing analyses data sets in order to generate a list of individuals an algorithm believes are likely to commit a crime.
Will AI replace my Job?
These numbers clearly indicate that computers are now capable of carrying out work that was previously by doctors and police man.Will artificial intelligence take away jobs? AI is not going to take away jobs.
Jobs will change, not disappear. AI will complement how people carry out their tasks by doing things like pulling and analyzing data to aid in real-time decision-making. An example of this might be how AI could empower a loan Officer with information from a CRM platform to help the officer decide whether to issue a loan to the applicant.
It will displace some jobs, yes, but it will more likely change what human workers do. Besides changing what human workers do, AI will also create new roles. Before commercial airlines existed, we never would have imagined the job of a flight attendant. I think this is such a creative way to think about what's going to happen with AI -- there are so many unforeseen opportunities on the horizon. Some of the new roles we cannot even think of them right now. We will gradually discover new roles as time elapses. PwC anticipates that AI will create not less than 7 million jobs in the U.K. alone over the next 20 years. In addition, according to McKinsey, about 77% of companies expect the resultant (net) change in size of their work force. That is because as some jobs disappear new ones will emerge so that on average the workforce remains the same. Actually companies are expect their workforce to grow by 17% t complement the need generated by AI.
AI and Humans Are Stronger Together Than Apart
While artificial intelligence (AI) is radically altering how work is done and who does it, the technology’s larger impact will be in augmenting human capabilities, not replacing them. In fact, a report from Harvard Business Review found that firms achieve the most significant performance improvements when humans and machines work together. How can AI and humans work together? AI cannot offer empathy or emotion, traits native only to humans; it likely will not have an applicable role in practice areas like psychotherapy, social work or in-depth customer service. AI can help get progress started, but it still requires a human to complete the job by verifying the accuracy or providing more context. These gray areas include services like accuracy checks and human interaction. While AI may not complete such tasks perfectly on its own, there is still value in keeping AI a part of the process. The ideal AI-human arrangement is one in which AI technology drives the lower level, repetitive processes associated with completing a task, while human oversight ensures the timely and accurate completion of that task.
While AI has earned its place it every industry, it does not always do best on its own. Borrowing the help of humans brings it to its full potential and allows us all to take full advantage of a powerful technology, making a true difference in the lives of consumers.
